Publication of the week, number 12, 7th February 2014

This was an interesting week, a week when Organic Letters published 6 additions and corrections to papers all published by the Fukuyama group and 1 by the Babu group in India. Apparently these were all due to removal of solvent and impurity peaks in the submitted NMR spectra linked to a series of natural product synthesis. Now this is bad enough, but of course the removal of impurities leads to an improved yield when calculated by NMR, which creates a false impression of the experimental effectiveness. Really this should not be expected to happen from departments in two prestigious Japanese universities or in an Indian research institute. It’s as if submitting the true data makes everything OK, makes you wonder what else may be wrong here? Enough of this unfortunate chapter in the pages of Organic Letters.

Well, nothing much else took my fancy this week. Something will materialise.
